EXPERIMENT 08

# Birdsong

[Previous experiment: Cloud Field](https://austingreco.com/experiments/cloud-field) · [Next experiment: Ivy](https://austingreco.com/experiments/ivy)

Five familiar voices, carried through the air.

American Robin, caroling song. A species-specific monochrome bird sings on the left. Sound fronts begin at its animated bill; the grayscale spectrogram and air particles follow its synthesized sound.

_Turdus migratorius_. American Robin, rather than European Robin. Synthesized approximation, not a recording or an identification aid. [Hear Cornell Lab’s reference ↗](https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/American_Robin/sounds)Arcs carry the song’s envelope and fundamental pitch; the grayscale spectrogram shows its spectrum on a log frequency scale. Visible carrier frequency is audio ÷ 200. History takes 5.2 seconds to cross the scene at 1×; this is illustrative, not physical scale. Speed changes pitch, timing, and travel together. Muting silences listening while the signal stays visible.
